Frequently Asked Questions
University residences can only host people with academic purposes (university students, professors, doctoral students, visiting scholars, visiting professors, etc.). In the other dorms, managed independently by the Il Faro Cooperative, people with different qualifications can also be accommodated.
It is necessary to make a request through our website, by clicking on the appropriate button +BOOKING and entering some important information such as, the period, the preferred dorm, the reason for stay and the type of bed (single, double or double for single use). At the end of the entry, after sending the request, you will receive an email with the summary of the data. The booking request is not binding and you will have to wait for an email from the Reception Office. For the current academic year, the deadline to send the booking request is 30th June.
After sending the booking request via the +BOOKING button, in case of availability, we will send an email with the quotation and instructions to complete the reservation. The absence of a response to this quotation within the deadline will result in the cancellation of the request. In case of non-availability, you can be placed on a waiting list.
In case of availability, we will send you a quotation where we will provide useful information for the completion of the reservation: we will ask you to complete the data, to accept the regulation and to pay a initial amount (security deposit + advance fee) within a certain deadline. If no payment is made by the deadline and no data is sent, the request will be cancelled. Upon receipt of payment, we will send you the invoice and an email confirming your booking.
Methods of payment are bank transfer or credit/debit card. You can find more details here.
The payment of the deposit is aimed at accepting the quotation and the reservation. During the stay it will be bound to guarantee any damage or arrears. The deposit will be released at the end of the stay, after check out. It may be retained, in whole or in part, to cover any costs for damages caused or for arrears.
We apply three criteria for the allocation of bed places: the kind of the stay, the lenght of the stay and the chronological order of receipt of requests (the first arrived is the first served).
Priority is given to academic stays for longer periods, in particular: the whole year (1st September – 31st August) and the semester (1st September – 31st January; 1st February – 31st August).
You can enter a preference that is only indicative and not binding. It will be satisfied based on the availability of bed places.
You can indicate a preference that will be satisfied according to availability. The number of bed places available, and in particular the single rooms, is much lower than the requests.
The reservation request does not include the choice of room. You can indicate a preference that will be accepted based on availability.
Cancellation must be communicated in writing at least 15 days before the start of the stay. Otherwise the deposit will be retained as compensation.
It is not possible to change the allocated dorm, room or bed place, unless otherwise agreed with the Reception Office.
At least three days before the start of the stay (or the end of the stay) it is necessary to agree with the Reception Office the time and place of check in (or check out).
Check-ins and check-outs are usually by appointment, from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Any exceptions will be accepted and managed at the discretion of the Reception Office.
The room keys will be given to you by the staff of the Reception Office at check-in.
Upon arrival at the dorm you only need to present a valid identity document (passport, identity card or residence permit). For people from non-EU countries, a copy of the residence permit or visa is also required.
It is not possible to shorten the contractually agreed period of stay. It is possible to extend it provided that there are free places.
It is possible to stay for short periods only in the occasion of academic events (conferences, congresses, seminars, etc.) or in the summer period and in any case based on availability.
The dorms are open all year round, except for the periods of closure for extraordinary maintenance.
There are no dedicated shuttle services. The dorms are located in urban areas served by public transport.
